As an optician working in the corporate world, I realized that glasses are not only a necessity but also a fashion statement. I always believed that no one should pay outrageous costs for their eyewear needs. During my many years spent in this fast growing industry, I quickly observed that the materials used in manufacturing did not drive higher costs. Rather, the designer names and markups enforced by the few corporations, which dominate the eyewear market are responsible for increased prices. Due to my honest nature and desire to provide substantial eyewear at the fairest price, I was dismissed from a position in one of the largest eyewear corporations in the world. I marked that day as the end of my corporate work and the beginning of my true career, where I can follow my passion and use my knowledge to help others. I spent my time thoroughly researching the development and design of my own cost efficient eyewear. A few short years later, Tabulae Eyewear was born.
My sunglasses are made in a small independent factory and I personally customize the lenses, in a New York City lab. My optical mission and goal are to provide customers with unique sun wear that is affordable, stylish and satisfying to the eyes. Tabulae sunglasses combine modern day edge with vintage style. I will never say that I am in this alone. I have immeasurable support from family, friends and my generous and loyal customers. This is only the beginning and it is going to be a wonderful journey as I make my mission and dream come true with Tabulae.
The frames are made of pure cellulose acetate. Acetate is a strong, yet durable plant-based material, making it easy to adjust for optimal fit. Each frame also includes spring or standard hinges, which provide flexibility and a comfortable fit on the face. Every Tabulae frame is single-handedly inspected for optical quality and suitable for prescription use.
Both labs service many premium lenses to optical shops in the five boroughs. All lenses come in either regular tinted or polarized with backside anti-glare coating and are made from Plastic (CR-39) materials which include 100% ultraviolet A and B protection.

All Tabulae frames and lenses are fully inspected prior to cutting and inserting. We work closely with a manufacturer on our frame designs and order our tinted and polarized lenses from local laboratories based in New York. This allows for flexibility to provide a variety of lens color options for each Tabulae frame. Tabulae frames come blank (without lenses). Upon arrival, frames are inspected and adjusted for optimal fit and comfort. Following adjustments, lenses are cut to fit each frame. This process entails grinding the lens down to fit the frames and manually heating the frames in preparation for lens insertion. The final lens product is then assembled in New York. The final step is to provide one last inspection, adjustment and thorough cleaning to ensure an optimal product is being delivered to our Tabulae customers.
"Today we came by Tabulae Eyewear Pop up shop at Greenpointers event in brooklyn and got 2 great pairs of sunglasses. The owner was very nice and attentive. He gave us a discount on both pairs and free folding cases for our new eyewear. Highly recommend his product."
"I visited Tabulae Eyewear at Artists and Fleas last weekend and was helped by a young gentleman. The frame I wanted was black with brown lenses but I wanted the darker grey lenses instead. He didn't have the frame with the lenses that I wanted at that time. What he did after I told him what I was looking for was pretty cool. He took matching grey lenses out of a different frame and put them into the frame I wanted. that way I was able to walk away with exactly what I asked for. I loved that he took his time to do that for me and I couldn't be more happier. I would highly recommend to come check him out. Service was 10 out of 10!"
"I was not in the market to buy sunglasses but I was browsing with my bf at Artists and Fleas and came across wood sunglasses, well that's what I thought at first. A young guy approached us and throughly explained what he was selling. Like I said at first I was planning not to get anything but of course I did after fully understanding his product and price point was too perfect. I literally paid $99 for a pair of polarized sunglasses which was a steal!"
